WIDE RELEASE
It’s Katy Perry’s World?

🍭 Katy Perry is back after a long hiatus.. Known for iconic hits like "California Girls" (734m views) and "Firework" (1.4b views), expectations were high for newest music video, “Woman’s World.” However, I’m left a bit puzzled— The video kicks off with a strong “Rosie the Riveter” vibe, showcasing a powerful display of girl power, only to take a sharp turn with Katy waking up on a street sporting metal legs.

What follows is a series of chaotic scenes, including her injecting gasoline into herself and having what seems like a meltdown in a monster truck. The climax? Katy escaping in a helicopter, proclaiming, “I’M KATY PERRY!” This isn’t a review—more of an invitation to decipher whether this is a thought-provoking masterpiece or a confusing, over-budget fever dream. Either way, it’s a must-watch.

NEW ON CINDERBLOCK
ANDRWMAARS is King

👑 ANDRWMAARS (pronounced Andrew Mars) has been the buzz at Cinderblock lately. Over the past two weeks, while we've been running global ads calling for musicians to submit videos to our platform, his submissions have really stood out. It's not every day you see an artist—especially early in their career—invest so much into the visual aspect of their music.

ANDRWMAARS isn’t just a rapper and songwriter from South Africa; he’s also a talented graphic designer, which shines through in his music videos. Each song is paired with a video that showcases his unique flair for creativity and design. His video for the single "King" is a testament to his vision and is currently streaming on our app, along with many others. This is what setting the bar looks like in the world of music visuals!

THE INDUSTRY
Shaboozey’s #1

📈 In the most significant resurgence of country music in recent memory, a new star has emerged: Shaboozey. This 29-year-old Virginia native has been on the music scene since 2014 but his recent feature on Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” has catapulted him into the spotlight. His single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is sweeping across the globe, and believe it or not, his entire album outshines even this hit. FYI, his visualizer linked above is HOW YOU SET A VIBE.

Shaboozey clinched his first-ever #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Not only that, but he’s also made history as the second black artist to top both the Hot Country Songs chart and the overall Top 100—a feat BeyoncĂ© did first just a few months earlier.

LIVE PERFORMANCE
Omar Apollo said yes, “God Said No”

đŸŽ€ This video gave me chills. Live performance videos are my absolute favorite to watch and by proxy, the hardest to impress me at this point. Omar Apollo just released his new record “God Said No,” which has been receiving rave reviews from the music community.

The accompanying video features a 14-piece ensemble of musicians and collaborators who perform four tracks—Dispose of Me, Drifting, Plane Trees, and Done With You—while lounging on a pillowy, white, multi-level stage. If this is your first foray into Omar Apollo’s music, you couldn’t pick a better introduction.

BUILDING IN PUBLIC
Message from me, Jake

The worst thing a startup can do is become complacent so we are doing just the opposite. We’ve decided to make a big change on how our apps and platform will operate moving forward. It’s scary, it’s a gamble, and I believe it’s exactly what Cinderblock needs and you want.

I don’t believe in saying specifics until they are a reality but the reality is the change is happening. What I CAN tell you is that our app has hundreds of amazing music videos and live recordings from artists across the world that you can watch right now.

Go find a new artist or video you didn’t know existed and let me know who/what it was. As always, my inbox is open. Just hit reply.
